PRESENTATION OF THE CANE CORSO MEETING

12° INTERNATIONAL MEETING
19/20 JUNE 2004

15° km via dei Laghi - 00049 VELLETRI

We have less then one week remaining until the international show in Rome, the most important show in the world of the Cane Corso. This classic has reached its seventh edition and this year, again, those that will attend won't be disappointed. We will therefore have two days filled with novelty of great interest.

Saturday June 19th
will be devoted as always to popular initiatives with a conference, and to the social Dinner.

CONFERENCE
This year on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the recognition of the breed a conference has been organized by the title "The Cane Corso, ten years after the recognition", it will have the following agenda:

- 4:00 pm Greeetings from the AICC president Renzo Carosio

- 4:10 pm A showing of an unpublished videotape of the 1992 Empoli show during which the Cane Corsos were certified for the registration to the open book (lasts 20min.), other brief videotapes and photos of the era will be also shown, we will also show some photos of another show that admitted dogs to the open book, it took place in Morciano of Romagna (lasts 10min.)

- 5:15 pm Renzo Carosio - Presentation of the "Descriptive sketch of the ethnic characters of the Cane Corso" from Dr. Anthony Morsiani's first draft regarding FCI Monaco 1934.

- 6:00 pm Prof. Enzo Righi - "Employment of the dog as humanitarian mine-detection dog”.

- 6:45 to 7:45 pm This time is for audience participation, questions and answers.

The videotape is an historical document of particular importance, since it also allows those that were not present at those shows to understand the proceedings for registration in the open book, besides getting to see the many Corsos that made up the first group to be registered (historical document).

The presentation of the descriptive Sketch of the ethnic characters of the Cane Corso, first draft, today can be defined as an historical document (the second draft modified according to more recent FCI guidelines was introduced during the Conference of Civitella Alfadena in 1991). This presentation allows a trip through the construction of the standard and the subsequent changes. This should prove to be of great interest to all the dog lovers (recommended).

The account of Prof. Enzo Righi on the Employment of the dog as humanitarian mine-detection dog , deserves a suitable presentation. Prof. Enzo Righi is a physician researcher of the National institute of Nuclear Physics, he is a Professor at the University of the Studies in Padua. He knows how to conjugate his scientific knowledges and his studies with the passion of a dog lover, becoming a reference of primary importance. He is president of ICARO (Interdisciplinary Cynological and Animal-welfare Research Organization) and president of the scientific Committee of the CABLIT. Prof. Righi discusses/refers to the original proposal that the first group put forth regarding the employment of the dog in the humanitarian mine detection (Interndisciplinary working group on mines detection dog). The anti-person mine is an enormous problem that affects the poorest countries and every year it causes about tens of thosands of deaths and serious injuries, most of these injuries are lifelong disabilities. Matter of great interest, treated with bright authoritativeness by the chairman (do not miss).

Dinner As in past years on the occasion of this Great Show in Rome, on Saturday evening there will be the AICC dinner also open to the non-members. During this dinner the AICC will award the Male and Female Cane Corso of the year 2003 as well as the breeder of the year 2003. We will also give certificates to the new AICC judges, experts of the Cane Corso. 8:15 pm Dinner 9:40 pm Awards presentation i

Sunday 20 th June , as usual is devoted to the zootechnical verification, it will be used to judge the Standard Cane Corso 2003, there will be three judges: two Italian judges AICC experts of the Cane Corso and an American, recommended by the ICCF. Here is a brief biography of the judges:

- Alberto Cremonesi - vice-president AICC, expert AICC judge of the Cane Corso has been following the breed for years, already president in the 1996 Lazio delegation of SACC  (the most numerous in the history of any club) he joined the AICC and in 1999 became vice-president. Organizer of the Rome show, he is known for his dedication to the breed.

- Dr. Patrician D'Alonzo, expert AICC judge, This is her 3 rd show. Great expert of the canine breeds (she is asked to judge every Sunday) has become a great fan and friend of the Cane Corso. Her breed knowledge and the technique she uses while judging, will be very important during the show as she interfaces with the American ICCF colleague during the judgments.

- Ed Hodas is able, without a shade of doubt, to be defined as the father of the Cane Corso in America. He in fact has been breeding the Cano Corso for 14 years under the Belmonte name. The figures point out to an extraordinary success: Ed Hodas has produced 40 champions and 5 Grand Champions. The annual and prestigious appointments of the National Specialty has seen the BOB assigned to one of his dogs in 1993 1994 1995 1997 1998 2001 2002. In the special classification of the top male Cane Corso, its subjects have been placed in first place in 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1997 1998 2002. While for the top female they have been classified in the first place in 1994 1995 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003. Ed Hodas, together with his wife Kristie, is one of the founders of the ICCF (International Cane Corso Federation), it has become the greatest Cane Corso association in the world. For twelve years he has been a director the association, also in charge of the  standard committee and the judges committee. His presence has been conclusive for the evolution of the guardianship and the selection of the Cane Corso overseas. Ed Hodas and his wife Kristie are also the founders of the ICCF Registry. Today we can affirm, without theme of denial, that there would not be a certified history of the American subjects without this initiative, the result would have meant serious injury to the guardianship and the selection of the CC breed. For these motives we are thankful that Ed Hodas has accepted with enthusiasm our invitation to judge at our AICC show in Rome. We would like to publicly express our recognition for how much Ed has done in these past years for the Cane Corso breed.

A special thank to Mr. Nick Di Croce for the translation of the text in English.
